Moss Island

Entrance at the end of So. Ann Street(in picture above). Rock climbing, nature walks, and Erie Canal Lock No. 17 (once the highest lift lock in the world). Info & climbing permits, M-F 315-823-2400 Weekends 315-823-1122.

Erie Canal Recreationway Trail

A 1.5-mile scenic paved pathway along the Erie Canal.

Herkimer Home

Just east of Little Falls, off Route 167 South, a NYS historic site ca. 1760. The home of Brigadier General Nicholas Herkimer hero of the Revolutionary War Battle of Oriskany. Open Saturdays and Sundays, Memorial Day to Labor Day. 315-823-0398

The 1747 Nellis Tavern

About 8 miles east of Little Falls, just beyond St. Johnsville village,
an early Palatine frame dwelling, formerly a tavern and farm house,
a NYS and Federal registered historic site with unique stenciling
and evidence of early construction techniques not found after 1750
in the Mohawk Valley.


Open Sundays, 1 to 4 PM, June thru September, and on special occasions.
